Robbie,
R.P. Told me what you said about my playing in Dallas. I would like to thank you. It is very gratifying coming from a player of your caliber.

Terry,

You are quite welcome and deserving might I add. You really knocked me in the dirt...in a good way! You gotta show me that song you did by youself on the C6th.

For those that missed Terry in Dallas, he played some of the prettiest steel I have ever heard. Notes bending and crossing everywhere while maintaining the melody.

L8R,
Robby

Robby and Jody,
Thanks to both of you. After hearing some of the things in my mind for a lot of years, I am finally finding some of them on my Steel Guitar, and it is so great when some one else likes them Too!!!!!!!
Robby I'll be glad to show you that song and anything else that I play, it would be an honor for me, the song was "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", it is on the CD If We Could.
Thanks again,
Terry Bethel
Sorry about mispelling your first name Robby.

I have heard a lot of pickers but NEVER one as smooth and accurate as Terry Bethel.

Sorry BUDDY, but Terry has it locked in.

If I could play like that, my life would be complete.

Terry is also one of the FINEST guitar players I have ever listened to. I worked with a six piece western swing band in Reno, and Las Vegas back in 1980/81 and used to listen to Terry on guitar with the John Wills band at the Barbary Coast in Vegas, and Dick Miller was playing steel with Big John's band. Terry played some of the most beautiful, Tastey fills I've ever heard. I was in the Willow springs Band at the time and our Steel player was Duane Brown, who remains a close friend of Terry.

I have not personaly seen or talked to Terry since, but what a lasting impression, as far as a clean, Tastey, and Tonefull player!!

The very first time I met Terry was in 1974 in Lubbock Texas when Terry was playing steel, and Guitar for the great Mel Tillis.
I was very impressed with him at the time also, but really got to hear him play when he was with the late John Wills. He may not remember me, except I was so interested in his tone, that I picked his brain, and he was very patient with me, and turned me onto a MEMORY MAN echo unit. Also, at the time he was playing a Peavy T - 60, and that was when I went down and bought one.
Sorry I missed him at the steel show, I was there on friday night, but had a gig on saturday night. Maybe next time.

Chuck,
I thank you for the nice things you said about my guitar playing. I really enjoyed working in the John Wills band. I had always wanted to play nothing but guitar for a long time, just to see if I could play guitar and not steel. John gave me that chance. He was a blast to work for. I remember that band for a number of reasons, number 1, was Dick Miller's steel playing. I thought Dick was one of those players that nobody realized just how great he was, in other words,UNDERATED and UNDER APPRECIATED. Dick and I also worked together in another band in Vegas, called The Borrowed Band. Two steels, keyboards, bass and drums. We got to play as much on stage as we wanted too, it was my band, and when I hired players, the first thing I asked was, "DO YOU WANT TO PLAY", because if you don't I don't want you. And play we did. We would tell the people that we were going to jam and to listen to what great players we had on stage for them, and they stayed there to hear what we were talking about. I wish at times I could be in a group like that again, however I doubt if you get away with it today. Country was hot in Vegas at the time and we were the hottest band there. Fun, Fun Days.
Chuck, I barely remember meeting you, but I do thank you for bringing back some good memories. I have seen Duane a couple of times in Reno when I was still with Mel.
Thanks again,
Terry Bethel
