Bill, I'm sorry I was hit by the flu bug and didn't get to be there. I had a bar for you. You might give me a call or email.

Well, the Christmas Party has come and gone, but our memory has captured many of the scenes and sounds and the taste of wonderful food!!! We want to thank all the cooks for their contributions to the super, wonderful meal! We want to thank all the steel players who went to the trouble of putting their steel guitar in its case and bringing it back out at the Community Center, putting it together, and of course, we talked to friends while we were doing it, and it took longer than usual. But that's a good way to fellowship, isn't it? It's still a real, neat picture in my mind, how all those steels were lined up on each side of the band. And a special thanks to Buddy and Russ!! It was a colorful array of steel guitars and of course, a beautiful piano setting in the midst. It seemed like the whole audience was so responsive and you made us steel players feel like we were worth something, when you applauded our efforts. Thanks to Charlie and Rosemary, (what an asset to the club) and all their helpers in the kitchen, getting all the food ready, and the tables set. Everything was placed so neatly!! I think it even increased our appetites when we saw that! Now, you steel players who didn't bring your steels to play. You are more than welcome and greatly desired, for you to bring your steels. The Sunday afternoon is for all steel players, irregardless if you're a beginner or the most talented. We're not competeing against one another! Every one of us knows how hard it is to learn the steel guitar and every 'lick or riff' or song that I've ever learned, I've tried to do it 10,000 times, I'm sure. And no one should be ashamed or proud of what we play at these jams! As we listen to each player, we can each learn something! I am so pleased when I learn a new lick from a beginner and you can believe I've had it happen many times. I wonder why I never thought of that! But if you choose not to bring your steel, you're more than welcome to a be a part of what's going on! I watch Terry Bethel and how intentively he watches each steel player. He seems to enjoy everything he hears and he also encourages all of us who are still trying, but we're not 'there' yet!! I know this is a long thread, but I'm a preacher! What can you expect?????? _________________ Jerry and Venda |

Sorry I could not attend, I had to play a benefit for a 88 year old widow who is about to lose her house. The widow was the famous guitar player "Speedy Haworth's" widow. Speedy played for many years with Rex Allen. Also was a staff player for the Ozark Jubliee with Red Foley, and Radio Station KWTO where Porter Wagoner, Tennesse Earnie Ford, Slim Wilson and many others got their start. The benefit was at the Springfield Stockyards. There was a good turnout of musicians, singers and people who just came to listen. I played in Charles and Jan Lee's band. They performed with Speedy for 15 years before his death in 2008. Again, I am sorry I could not make the Christmas Show and visit with my dear friends. I just hope the benefit at the Stock Yards raised enough money so the 88 year old Mrs. Haworth can stay in her home. |
