Those of you using the Franklin pedal, do you have strings 5,6 and 10 on the pedal four, or do you have that 10th string drop on a knee lever? I have a friend that is going to add the Franklin pedal to his guitar, but should he split it up and put the 10th string (pull/lower) on a knee lever? If so, how do you do that? I know it is a preference sort of thing, but we would like to get some feedback from others.
Thanks a lot |

I lower 5,6 and 10 on Pedal 0. If you were to split it, I would look at Tommy White's copedant. According to the one on the forum he lowers 5 to A on RKL and 6 to F# on LKV. He lowers 10 to Bb on the RKL. Maybe Tommy will see this thread and comment on his setup.

Nobody can answer that question for you. It's like splitting the C pedal with E to F# on a lever. Neither that nor the split 'Franklin pedal' changes worked for me, but I had to try it before I knew. Your mileage may vary. Most people who split them split the Bs to As from the G# to F#. _________________ Larry Bell - email: larry@larrybell.org - gigs - Home Page

I have ordered the parts to install this on my guitar. I guess the thing to do is see what you guys have experienced before I do anything. The worst thing that could happen is having to take one pull and move it around. Thanks Mark for starting this thread. Other opinions on this forum are a great asset when making a decision on what to pull and what pedal or lever others use. Merry Christmas. |

Split 'em! - I find that i use the changes so much more having them split. I lower 6 on the usual emmons lever and 5&10 on the franklin pedal (0 position) - I also lower 10 a whole step on the 2&9 lower lever. makes for nice fat chords. Im also considering moving from emmons to the day/white set up. Tommy White uses the split franklin sooooo beautifully |

I lower 5, 6 and 10 on pedal 4 but I also lower the G# to F# on a separate lever on it's own as well(with the split) -- works just fine for me! _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

I have always split mine, and I do not lower the 10th.. just wouldn't use it all that much.. On my Fender 800, pedal 4 drops the low G# down a full tone, and pedal 5 drops the 5th string B down a full tone.. Lots of wasted pedals,... I drop the 5th down 1/2 on pedal 6.. One day soon I may use a half pedal "stop" on the 5th pedal and free pedal 6 up for something else.. My carter has the string #6 G# down a full tone on pedal 5 and the 5th string down a full tone on a vertical knee... Different spots but the pulls are the same as the old Fender.. So anyway, yes, I DO spilit that change... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

Poor mans Franklin change = Raise the 4th string 1 full step and slide the bar down 2 frets and get all three lowered - No extra pedals! _________________ Ron Petersen |

I usually split it..... 5 and 10 lower on the pedal, 6 lower on a knee... usually my RKL which also raises 1&2. |

I lower the 6th string a whole tone on a knee lever. Maybe I just need to put it on strings 5 and 10 and use the lever for the split. |

I find more changes by splitting it. On U-Tube, on Cold, Cold Heart, under 'Solesky' you can see the advantage. |

I have 5 and 6 lower only on P0 on a D10 so its not split, just missing 10 lower. Im going to try adding it to the C pedal, which was a topic of another thread.
Great playing Ted!

I installed the pulls on strings 5&6 this evening. I am taking a rod to a machine shop and let them thread it for me. I will put it on the 10th string. Can harddly wait to use it when playing out. |

I don't know how to cut and paste / copy the info here but perhaps someone else can search and do it for us.....
This topic was discussed under the Forum category of "Pedal Steel" with a Feb 1, 2010 post entitled
"B's to A change on E9"
Initiator of the original post was Graham Rodger and Mike Cass provided some valuable insight into splitting the change between two knee levers (ala Tommy White).
Perhaps someone can cut and paste that info to this current post.
Thanks - |

I did put the pulls on the 4th pedal. I put the 10th string on the RKR lever so I could have the split. I will give it a tryout tonight on a jam session. |
