Hello all. New here. I just purchased a 52 Supro Clipper for $250. Appears to be in very good condition but will let you know when it arrives. Very much a lap steel newbie but inspired by a friend of mine - Spencer Bohren. I hope to be spending some time here and learning from you all.

Welcome to the forum! It really is a great place for all things steel guitar.
I think you will like your Supro. They are alot of fun. It looks like it has the original Amphenol connector, So if it doesn't come with a cord, you might want to get one coming or get an adapter jack.
I know Elderly's has the cord.

Thanks Frank. I ordered an adapter.

Nice - congratulations!
I've got exactly the same model from the same year - but I was told that it's a Supro Supreme (not a Clipper) - don't know what the difference would be...

Spencer Bohren is an old friend of mine from Denver and a pretty inspiring musician. He told me that he uses lap steel "like a ouija board".

I have a 1953 Supro that's identical to yours, though my research ID'd it as a "Supreme". The pickups were a bit weak when I got it, so I had Jason Lollar replace the magnets, rewind one coil and mount a standard 1/4" jack plug instead of the noisy stock amphenol plug. Now it's a screamer!

I first meet Spencer and his wife Marilyn four years ago. I was introduced to them by Bill Kirchen. Great people with great stories and exceptional talent.

Anyone want to chime in on the "Clipper vs. Supreme" question?

The guitar arrived today. The guitar appears to be in very good condition. I don't have the adapter yet so I can't test it. MOTS is all intact. Felt is the same. All parts look original.

The case is beyond its last legs. Also the tuner buttons need replacing.

Any hints as to where I can find a replacement case and tuner buttons?

Thanks!

The Supro Clipper is identical to the Supreme except that it has dot markers not geometrical squares and triangles.
The National Clipper lap steel was a different instrument made from 1953 to 1955 and shaped more like an old coke bottle. It was sunburst with a stairstep fingerboard in black and white.

The Supro Clipper was catalogued by Supro in the National 1942 catalogue and the name changed to the Supreme after the war in 1947/48. In the pre-war years Supro were listed along with National guitars in the same catalogue
