I was fortunate recently to have Russ Blake swing through my neck of the woods at the beginning of a short tour with Caleb Klauder. I hooked Russ up with a Clinesmith, which he proceeded to playing the heck out of and he took it home with him. So, if you are in the Portland, OR area, you can do yourself a favor and hear him play it.
Here's a clip of Russ playing it. This is not a steel feature, but Russ plays tastefully. I heard him do B. Bowman Hop and he killed it.

I briefly visited Russ and saw the Clinesmith. It's gorgeous. I was in it's case, not set up and I didn't get to hear it played. |

Russ sounds awesome on any guitar I look forward to seeing that Clinesmith in the flesh.
Mike, did you get to check out his triple neck he built himself with the Bigsby style benders at the key head? It sounds hot. |

I've been dying to just see one of the Clinesmith guitars. I'm sure I'll see Russ next time they pop up to Seattle. _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I should point out that the Clinesmith D-8 in question doesn't belong to me, I just brought it out west on it's way back to Todd. But, I am sincerely grateful to Mike and Todd for letting me use it on that tour. It was a joy to play and got lots of attention everywhere we went. We even made up a jingle in the van- "If you want the real deal... you need a Clinesmith steel." And we sang it on stage along with a little promo pitch- "Friends, how often have you been sitting out there, listening to someone play a steel guitar and thinking to yourself, 'I could do better that that!' Well, we believe you could, but of course you'll need a steel guitar to do it. And you owe it to yourself, and your audience, to buy the very best..." I'm sure Todd's phone has been ringing off the hook! |

Russ, if you're up in Seattle with Caleb, I'll still come see you, Clinesmith or no! Now if Todd just started making Bigsby-style "Spanish" guitars... _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

Russ rips it up on the 6 string as well. Got to hear him with Jeremy Wakefield in Lucky Stars about a year ago. Holy crap that was hot. Caleb Klauder is a fine singer and songwriter as well. He writes songs that sound like classics. _________________ www.facebook.com/countrydaveharmonson |
