I am leaning the direction of a Bassman 100 head but I'm wondering if anyone has ever installed a reverb tank into one and if it's possible? |

Benjamin: the Bassman 100 head has no reverb circuit, so putting a reverb tank in it would require major modification to the circuitry...even then the standard Bassman 100 head cabinet would need to be enlarged to accomodate the space needed between the bottom of the cab and the transformers that a reverb tank requires.
If you want a Fender Amp head with similar wattage plus reverb look for a 1970's Dual Showman Reverb...it's got vibrato as well. Failing that, you could always use a reverb pedal with the Bassman 100. The Dual Showman Reverb is like a Silverface Twin Reverb in a "head only" package...much bigger cabinet than the Bassman 100 to accomadate the reverb tank. _________________ Emmons Push Pull, BMI, Session 400, Home of the Slimcaster Tele. |

I used to have a Dual Showman Reverb. I now have a regular Showman head and run it with a Wet reverb pedal. I think it is an improvement. It is lighter, sounds better and does not "spring crash" when someone jumps up and down on a flexible bandstand. Try a good reverb pedal, you might be surprized. _________________ To write with a broken pencil is pointless. |

Reverb could be added to the Bassman 100, though I don't think it would be very practical.
However, if I were to do it....I'd put the tank in the speaker cabinet, and use a TRS phone plug, or 3 pin XLR connector, to connect the tank to the reverb drive and recovery circuit, which I would mount in a small diecast aluminum box inside the Bassman box. Requires an additional two tubes, a small transformer, and associated resistors and caps. Would also require small modifications to the original circuitry to insert the reverb circuit.
All this is not very practical, though if you can do the work yourself, it's less unpractical. Only if you gotta have that Fender spring reverb sound. Like me...Jerry |
