Comin' home from the job last night, we turned on WSM as usual. After about 5 min. of The Marshall Band's "Can't You See" live (on the Opry or Record Shop) We turned it off and put a Merle Haggard cd in. I don't mean to brag or seem egotistacal, but I swear the band I am in plays better Traditional Country than anything I have heard out of Nashville in a long time. DW

Doyle,

No offense taken but i would be interested in hearing the band you play with.
I'm the steel player for MTB and i'll tell you we were asked to play the Ryman. As you may or may not know MTB has been around 40 years and never persued the Opry much less the Ryman.

I will add that today's so called "Country" is pretty much more rock than the MTB is. I'm 52 and have been playin steel, guitar, dobro and a little mandolin for 41 of those years. I've played Rock, blues and "Real Country". MTB loves country music but they have never once claimed to be country.

Did you catch "Fire On The Mountain"? To be at the Ryman with it's history along with MTB's history and having to hit the first note ever played there by MTB was pretty exciting.
Anyways, thought i would add the comment that it was an honor for MTB to be ask to play and one we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

All the best.....k

This is what a standing ovation looks like from the stage at the Ryman. Whoa!

No offense Doyle, your band may be the best in your entire neck of the woods, but Kenny played the Opry that night and you didn't, so....
