"I just read Cal Sharps "The beast from the back of the bus." and I can tell you that it sure reinforces the fact why I'm glad (or not) to have chosen the path of being a road musician as a young man. I figure that the characters in this book and the many instances that happen on the road are at least 75 % true; and we pretty much know who a couple of the characters are in real life. Several stories surround the characters and there is no down time in the book. I really enjoyed it. It kept me entertained from the first page to the last. No filler just to add pages to the book. It's a good read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm hung over just from reading it.

Greg,
It is a good read!
After I met Cal years ago, he began emailing me a chapter at a time. He couldn't send them fast enough, I read it in one night.
After reading it I should have known what I was getting myself into! Just kidding!LOL
Makes a great Christmas gift too!
Thanks for all the great comments on Cal's book.
He has another ebook out, Chevy Summer. A mystery story written around a group of teenagers in the '60's. _________________ Custom made covers for steel guitars, amps, keyboards, steel seats

I took a Photoshop class at Nashville Tech about 15 years ago and one of our class projects was to design a book cover. How serendipitous, as I was working on this book at the time, and had been for the previous 10 years or so. I was still working on the damn thing 15 years later, and when I'd corrected most of the typos and was ready to publish I used my old class project file, that I got an "A" on, BTW. Available on Amazon.
Many thanks to you who have expressed some interest in it. It's about half autobiographical and half a pigment of my colorful imagination.

I also enjoyed it and recommend it.
I'm responsible for a few sales to musician friends (non-steelers)who later thanked me for the tip. |

Thanks, Joey.
I started this book back in the 80's riding around on Faron's bus, scribbling away on a yellow legal pad, and when I got home I'd type it up on a manual typewriter. Then I got an electric typewriter. Then I got a word processor - not a computer, just a word processor, so I transferred everything onto it. When I got a computer I put it all on it and soldiered on using WordPerfect for DOS. After that I started using WordPerfect on Windows 3.1. Along about his time I started writing articles about the road, which are available here. I sold "Cold Hamburgers" to "Country Music Magazine" and one day when I walked into Faron's office there was that issue on his desk. Don't know if he read it, but I'd used a pen name, anyway.
When I started using Mac computers in the 90's I transferred my Great American Novel again. So now I've got about 10 versions of it, in various formats and in various stages of completion. Whew. I had everything backed up, of course, because I read about some big time writer who was new to computers and lost his whole book in an instant, but I mailed copies on a floppy disk to my brother, just to be extra safe. I eventually ended up with the book imported, merged, edited, scrutinized, pruned, re-formatted and polished like an aluminum end plate onto a Mac, as a Word document. Since publishing it as an ebook it now also exists in HTML, pdf, epub and mobi formats.
So, that's what I've been doing for the last 25 years, when I wasn't playing steel guitar. And I still type about 25 words a minute. _________________ C#

I have read both books and Cal's writing knocks me out. Chevy Summer is a good who done it and The Beast From The Back Of The Bus is just as good. Kudos to Cal and I hope more books are coming...rj |
