I knew him back in the seventies when I lived and played in New Orleans. He is an expert for sure. I forget the year but we were at the convention in St. Louis together and he kept us laughing the entire time.
When you see him again tell him hello for me. I hope he is still doing well.

I've known Mr. Bonnvillian for many years, and I concur with Reese, he is definitely an exceptional player and human being. You couldn't have a better teacher. The best to you on your journey into the steel guitar world. It is definitely a journey worth taking...been on mine for over 41 years.....HAL _________________ HAL...Excel D-10 w/ 8 & 5. I have been proud of Johnny's friendship for many years. And, as Reece says, he is one of the very best in the business. It is good you have him as your instructor.
Johnny has influenced some of the biggest players in our steel guitar world. Jerry Byrd and I used to converse about players that influenced us when we would visit. Jerry told me he listened to the WWL radio station in the 40 and 50s to listen to Johnny when he played on the "Dawn Busters" program. I listened to that also. I introduced Johnny and Jerry over the telephone when Johnny was visiting my home. Johnny was humbled and not aware that he had the attention of players like Jerry Byrd and others there in Nashville.
Johnny is a true musician-better yet, a REAL musician. Glad you have access to someone like him. Give him my regards. Happy Thanksgiving to ALL.

Count me as one of Johnny`s biggest fans, and I`m proud to call him my friend. He was my teacher in the early 90`s. I think if he wanted to, or was willing to travel, we would be mentioning him along with the biggest and the best. A great, great, player who could play any style. I was really green when I took those lessons, and mostly would just sit and listen to him play, which really inspired me to learn.
I wish more people knew about Johnny, Great player,Great guy !! |
