Precious little can be found by this classic era lady steeler, who long ago died at the young age of 35. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-ZbOoQTGmI
The poster of this scarce tune has stated there may be a home recording, possibly a house party, of her 'somewhere'. Let's hope that treasure surfaces soon.
Anybody know of more Mikilani we can enjoy, or bio info? |

Mikilani has three tracks on a Waikiki Records LP from the late 50s called "On The Beach At Waikiki" LP316, two tracks on another LP called "Kuuipo" LP317 I have a couple more tracks from Waikiki Records 45s....567,571 and 572. She is wonderful to listen to. So sad that she passed away at such an early age. |

Aloha Dave. I tend to disagree. Thirty five is just to damn early to die. I would have liked to have been able to listen to much much more of her beautiful voice. I kinda feel cheated. A handful of tracks is just not enough when you have as much talent as she had. |

Norman, I agree with everything you wrote. I guess I was looking for something positive in a tragic tale. I do have to admire her sass, though. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

While many others have sung TWO SHADOWS ON THE SAND, Mikilani Fo did it best I M H O. Like many others who enjoy her voice, this is the ONLY song I have ever heard of her. Be nice if someone could post other songs she may have done. Also, her reputation as a steel guitarist is well known...were any records produced with her on steel ? Anyone know who played steel on this recording ? Was it Mikilani ? |

It would be hard to know for sure, but listening to the recording, it's hard to imagine how someone could phrase like that vocally while simultaneously improvising tasty steel fills over it. If she's playing steel and singing, it's pretty impressive. |

Keoki, it's said that it is Mikilani on steel. There are 45s and a Waikiki Recs. comp. with a few cuts, probably a half dozen in total, besides TSOTS. An effort should be made to compile all her stuff, I'd imagine there's a bit more to gather, but not much. Too busy partying to record, what a gal!
One intriguing aspect to hope for, that being a substantiated rumour of a home recording/house party tape of her possibly existing. Frigg'n holy grail material! |

Ok Guys. I have uploaded hundreds of video clips onto youtube. This is my first attempt (second actually, the first one didn't work) to upload a music file. I figured out how to do it!!
Mikilani Fo singing Kalama'ula from a Waikiki Records LP "Ku'u Ipo LP317
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf5qyOdMQ1Q
Now, if I can remember how to do it again, I have a few more tracks of hers that I will try and upload shortly.

Mahalo to Ron and Norman.
This seems like a valuable lost treasure that has just now been found. WOW!
Thanks Norman for making all of these old Mikilani Fo classic numbers available.
A remarkable treasure. Classic Hawaiian steel and vocals! The Hawaiian steel backup was just exquisite. It doesn't get any better.
Also thanks to my friend, Ron, who is also bringing many new finds and Hawaiian treasures to the Forum.
Aloha,
Don |

I seem to remember that she died on stage (?) I guess it's the place to go out, where you are doing what you love.....
A truly Hawaiian type voice... |

According to Lorene Ruymer's book she died on stage in Reno, Nevada at the age of 35. As I said earlier, I have always felt cheated by that fact, whenever I listen to her music. |
