Thoughts if this speaker would work how it would sound in a 112.
12" 8 ohm Vintage grey frame JBL D131F Speaker, from what I can gather the D131F was an earlier version of the D120F used in Fender amps of the mid 60's. This speaker is in excellent condition and works fine, no longer need this one. |

An 8 ohm speaker in a 112 sure would rob a lot of the power. |

The D131F was in fact the predecessor to the D120F, with a power rating of around 50 watts. It had a narrower voice coil gap than the later instrument speakers, yielding outstanding sensitivity and extended range with minimal compression at power.
The NV112 delivers 80 watts into 4 ohms, with an 8 ohm speaker that will fall to around 45 to 50 watts, which is right on the money for the D131F, and due to the >6dB difference in sensitivity it will still be as loud or louder than the original 4-ohm speaker you are replacing.
IMHO the D131F just may be the best speaker ever for that amp as it will deliver the widest frequency response, excellent clarity and noticeably higher SPL per watt than ANY other speaker you can buy now, including the later D120F, K120 or E120 models.
You're a lucky cowboy, Andy, have fun and take good care of that thing ![Razz](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) |

i was pleased to see this thread, and the explanation by dave, as i put an 8 ohm EVM 12 L into my nashville 112 about 3 years ago, i was told that while putting an 8 ohm speaker into my combo, wouldnt do any harm to the amp, it would reduce power, i went ahead anyway, and i found to my surprise, that the n112 is at least equally as loud, if not louder than the original speaker, but with a much better sound, in my opinion, i can only guess that the Electro Voice is a much more efficient speaker, on the other hand, i have heard that if you put a high power rated speaker in a Valve amp, you would drain the power from the valves, but not so in the case of the solid state n112, so care does need to be taken when switching speakers, and good advice should be sought. _________________ There are no strangers, only friends you have yet to meet |

This is absloute rubbish, Edward, the power rating of a speaker has nothing whatsoever to do with how much power the amp will deliver or the volume achieved thusly. While some "high power" speakers are designed with SPL-killing stiffer surround systems in order to handle the higher wattage without overexcursion, most are far more efficient and accurate than the cheezy OEM drivers and will deliver noticeably more sound per watt even from a 15-watt amp, be it powered by Solid State devices OR Valves. |
