Looking to buy an instrument mic. Thought I'd look for used before looking for a new one. Will be using on a Tricone.

Thanks,

Rick

Rick, below is a link to this very discussion we had on the Jerry Douglas Forum, not about tricones, but spider bridge single cone dobros. I don't see that it would make any real difference.

I'm sure you will get a lot of different opinions here, as happened on that forum.

Here is Jerry's response to the question:

Quote:

Shure mics are the way to go. KSM32 for quieter situations. Because of the big diaphragm, it pics up other sounds like drums and the louder things onstage. Nothing beats the good ol' SM57 for any situation. It doesn't mess up the frequency curve for loud stages and yes, you can pound nails and leave it out in the rain.

Thanks for the input, Mark. I need something I can take to gigs and not have to worry about... Looks like the SM57 or something similar is the way to go. Anyone have anything like that they'd like to sell?

Bummer - I see the link didn't work correctly. I have nothing for sale right now myself but an SM-57 to me is sort of like the small block Chevy V8 of microphones (or what used to be the small block V8 back in the day), and even if you can't find a used one in good shape you can get a new one for a hundred bucks or a little under.
