We do this on a Cajun accordion forum I frequent, so I figured I'd try it out here and see what we get.

Basically, I take a song and provide everyone with a link so they can hear the song as many times as they like (usually via Youtube). Participants have a limited amount of time to record themselves playing the song, and a winner is chosen and given a reward. If we can get enough to participate, I will work out how often a challenge will be posted, and what the reward for the winner will be. This is just a test, so I'm going to see how it goes.

As of Thursday 11/3/11, the challenge is:

The Marshall Tucker Band - Fire on the Mountain

This fantastic example of pedal steel was recorded back in 1974. Pedal steel, lap steel, and even slide guitar are all eligible to participate. See how close you can come to this original MTB recording.
