I have a GFI Ultra D-10 that I bought in like new condition from a private party in November 2009. It's been flawless with exception of one problem that seems to have cropped up in recent months. On the E9th neck, my high E string has sort of a "sitar" buzzing sound unless I use a lot of extra downward bar pressure. Barring on the first fret is almost impossible without buzz. I'm using Emmons strings and have specifically changed only that string twice to try to eliminate the problem which is a .014 gauge. All the rest of the strings are fine. There is no buzzing when picking the strings open with no bar. I can't imagine it would be my choice of bar (Dunlop stainless steel) since it didn't seem to do it when I first got the steel. As far as I can tell, the roller nut seems fine. Any suggestions on what it might be? |

Try a tiny drop of a light oil on the roller nut. |

I hope the drop of oil on the roller does it, but I'm thinking it could be the changer finger instead. |

Press down the string hard just before the changer finger use the tip of the bar. between the pickup and the finger, it will insure that the string is seated on the top of the finger, works for me |

I'd look for a rough spot on the top of the finger.
Does the D lever or C pedal have any effect? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects |

Yeah, rough spot or wear groove. Try this. Loosen the string so that you can slide it off center on the top of the finger. Don't worry about string-spacing, as this is just a test. Tune it back up, and see if the buzzzz is gone. |
