If you use Ernie Ball E9th strings ..... are you using the Stainless Steel or Nickel sets ?
Just curious after reading a 6 yr old post by Bob Carlucci on 3rd string breakage that has been revisited .
thanks ..... Bob V. _________________ EQUIPMENT:

Nickel and the store lets me swap a few gauges. I use .011/.017P/.020P/.036W... They stay on my steel till I'm ready to change them out. 4 or 5 weeks, playing three times a week. I did get a batch of bad .011s that made me question my sanity. I called them my three day strings. |

Bob,
I have been using Ernie Ball strings for years, the
nickel ones. I sell them in my shop, and stock them as individual strings so I can make up any gauge set a
player wants.
I did have a bad batch a few years ago where I broke
three 11's in a row just trying to change one. However, I seldom break a string and I don't change mine near as often as I should... Sometimes go 4 or 5 months and 20 or more gigs between changes... |

Nickel here also ..... I was just wondering cause I've had NO string issues with my StageOne (or my Sho-Bud from a past life ), and after coming across that older topic from Bob Carlucci it just made me start to question things .
Matter of fact , I haven't found anyone that uses the EB SS set ...... yet .
Thanks guys for sharing your thoughts . _________________ EQUIPMENT:

As stated above, I use Ernie Ball Nickel strings and buy them individually by the gauge. |

...... I should get individual strings too , I guess . I carry extra full sets but never seem to need them . I have not broken a string on my StageOne yet (now I've jinxed myself ).... not even when changing , and hardly ever on my 6 strings .... never from playing & rarely when I've done something dumb while changing them . That goes for my bass guitars , mandolins and yes 5 string banjos ( I'M SORRY yes I have those too )
Last year at Christmas time , I tried to help out a fellow forum member in the Dallas area by sending him some of his favorite ERNIE BALL strings and changed out some from the E9th Nickel set with extras I had from unneeded sets so he would have his preferred gauges. Still don't remember anyone using the Stainless sets tho .
Thanks Erv ! ...... Bob V _________________ EQUIPMENT:

I like Ernie Ball strings because of the extra windings on the ball end. It makes them less liable to break than other makes. I've used nickel strings, indivually packaged, since I started playing in 1974. IMHO, sets are someone else's idea of gauges, not mine. - Jack |
