Egil, Andy Doll was a bandleader from Oelwein, Iowa. His band was very popular in the 50' and early 60's. I am lucky enough to count some of his band members as friends though a lot of them are gone. If you could make the link work it would help.

Andy led the band and played several instruments. Steel was not one of them. I also have an AD label 45 of his, if it's the same one, he recorded in Nashville and used Buddy Emmons for the session. Dale Thomas

Hi.
Thanks for your replies so far.The link works on the PC`s I have used,so maybe you need to download another player,or upgrade what you got? I don`t think this is Hal Rugg or Byddy Emmons, the sound is almost nonpedal, and quite simple, but nice enough.Hope you get the link to work for you.

Yep, The Andy Doll band was a great band! I saw them many times playing around the southwest part of Wis where I grew up. Don't remember them having a steel player though.

Awesome guitar David!!!
Have you ever played one?
I have never seen one, boy, that shows my ignorance- I thought Wright Custom was only steel guitars!
Did your Dad make these guitars also?
What was the 6+6 configuration on the ad? Whammy and non-whammy?

The guitar pictured in the ad is 6 and 6....did I miss something....the second cup of coffee has not kicked in yet.
Bullit list #4 is 2 6 string standard necks.

When I played with Andy in the late 50's, I thought one of the two necks was tuned and strung like a baritone guitar.

Thanks Lefty,
Are there any recordings/videos of him out there that anybody knows of?
I'd love to hear what that guitar sounds like.

Hi Lefty.
Thanks for your input about Andy Doll, very interesting that you have played for him!. Have you listened to the soundclip in my post, and have any idea of who plays the steel on this 45? The record don`t give any info about when it was recorded,so if he was active for a long time,he may have used many different steelers. Both Buddy Emmons and Hal Rugg has been mentioned, but from the playing,I have my doubt that it can be any of them.Do you have any idea?
Regards,Egil

Egil,
Your post has a broken link-that doesn't bring up a sound clip it brings up a sign in page for google mail.

If you go to www.grooveshark.com and sign up you can post it there and get a proper link for us
