Hello Forumites,

That's right, I have made an online tribute to Mike Nesmith's old label and studio in California - Countryside, aka The Countryside Ranch via Facebook.

www.facebook.com/pages/Countryside-Ranch/258062220871740

It it viewable if you are not a Facebook member, but there is a limit to what you can do.

For those who don't know, ex-Monkee and then RCA recording artist Michael Nesmith (Nez) with outside funding and the support of Elektra Records, put together a house band, a roster of artists, a studio and his own label to market country music on the west coast. This was at a time when the industry was shifting it's attention to Nashville. We're talking the 1972-1973 period, as the effort was short lived, but has been a point of interest to me for many years.
Various forum members have helped with this info and I just wanted to share the page.

Cheers

Jason

That video of Jay Lacy is great. He was always on of my favourite guitar players, good to hear him play again!
There's a cd from the British "Mojo" magazine in memoriam of George Harrison, on which there is a fine version of "So Sad" recorded by Ian Matthews, do you know who the musicians are?
Thanks

Mike Nesmith did a gig just last week in Marfa, Texas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marfa,_Texas

and streamed it live on his website at the time.

Greg Leisz on steel, Shawn and Sarah Watkins playing guitar and fiddle, Benmont Tench on piano. This was a further extension of a gig that they played at Largo, in L.A.

Nesmith had such a good time with this band that I think he plans on playing more gigs. He also was quite impressed with Greg's playing, especially when he told him that he was mentored by Red Rhodes.
