Austin, TX lost another of its most beloved musicians. Gene Kurtz, bass player extroardinaire, former member of Dale Watson's band, composer of the megahit song "Treat Her Right", and all around wonderful individual has passed away. He will certainly be missed.

There's not a finer gentleman or musician than Gene. There's a big hole in the music now, but he left an impressive legacy and countless friends behind. I hope there's music wherever he is now.

This is a pic of Gene with my buddy Baker, from 2008.

Gene was such a prince, treated us like royalty, we will sure miss him.

My condolences to his family,

This is a sad but not un-expected day. Gene was top-shelf all the way, as a picker and as a friend. Condolences to Dell (his woman) and all the family, which includes all the musicians whose music Gene graced and made better, including my own.
