New complaint to me. A local band leader told a friend that they didn't want a steel because they override the band.........? Am I behind times on this one? I never heard it before.

That's a technical term, Roual, translated roughly as "believe it or not I'm really a much bigger moron than you ever might have imagined!"

The fellow no doubt had a difficult experience with a steel player who never stopped soloing, much like some lead guitarists we have all worked with...

In my experience it just means they don't want a steel guitar in the band.

It actually means that the Steel player makes the whole band sound out of tune.
If you don't believe me ask Don Imus. That is probably where the guy heard it (morning radio show).
