Topic: Pickup or Mic in Marty Stuart's D-45? |

| I hope I'm not posting this in the wrong section. Does anyone know what Marty Stuart uses in his Martin D-45 for a pickup on the Marty Stuart Show? I can't find anything online or an email address to ask Marty himself. I have a 48 D-28 that I would like to amplify in the same manner if possible. I appreciate any info you guys could forward to me. Thanks! |

| Paul Martin. Marty's bass player is a member here. He would know. He may be along here soon. I remember talking to Kenny Vaughan at a Marty gig once about this. They are VERY particular about there acoustic pickups. That's Hank Sr.'s Martin that Marty plays on the show by the way. |

Maybe if Paul is kind enough to answer the Martin question, he could also tell us what speaker Marty has in the Deluxe Reverb he is playing live. Killer tone...I know it's Clarence White's B-Bender Tele and Marty's fingers, but still...killer tone..

I too have been curious about the acoustic pickups Marty and Kenny use because they sound so natural. Not quacky or plastic like the piezos.

I was thinking both Mary and Kenny used Princetons, but my eyes are going bad. |

Tim,
On the TV show, they both play Princetons, but live Kenny is playing a silver face Princeton and Marty is playing a silver face Deluxe. Both had a great tone, but I liked Marty's better.
I saw them live in Bristol, TN not long ago. I walked up to the foot of the stage to get a look at the gear.

I sent the question to Kenny Vaughan via Facebook. Here is his response:

Now that I hear this I do remember seeing a thin wire running along the top of Marty's neck and wondering about it.
FYI Kenny and I played in the Denver punk/new wave scene in the late 70s - early 80s. He made the switch to C&W about 10 years before me and with much better results  |
