Well Brandin, that's a great song, great girlfriend and great steelplaying!~
As you are a very good steelplayers yourself (I have to learn your great backings for my Heather Myles gigs) how come you are not backing up her?
Thanks, Johan |

Johan, it's because I'm not as good a player as Jay Dee. And, Patty agrees! He does magic things when he plays.
The Video was done last week in New York city, by long time friend Johnny Jake.

yeah brandin...cool chick...and ya gotta love jd!!!. i often say that buddy emmons is the only one who 'really' gets that gooey pushpull tone right, but then i'm always reminded that jd gets his own beautiful take on it also. my two favorite tone monsters. and listening to this cut reminds me how much pitch has to do with it...play in tune...wow..
(gotta give john hughey a nod..)
that performance..vocal, steel, everything..made my morning! |

Great stuff, Gary. JayDee's work with Patty is among my favorites. Do you know if he was mic'd or went direct somehow? And you're no slouch either! Love the ZB! |

Very nice, Gary. I've been a fan of Patty's for a long time. Great playing by JayDee, and that sounds like Bob Gothar on gtr...
Who wrote the tune? |

Skip, the song was written by Patty Booker and Jan Brown.
Peter, when ever Jay Dee has recorded with Patty, he has used his amp. That is a great Emmons tone on that track.

Hey Gary...thanks for putting that up! Patty and Jay Dee sound great on that track!
Also nice to hear her with you, Bob, and Rhys too!
The Swallows is about the only Honky Tonk left around these parts.
Is Johnny Jake living in New York now? I remember playing Mona Lisa as a swing shuffle with him at the Swallows years ago. Cool guy! |

Now, maybe I'm dating myself, but this is the way it's supposed to sound. So glad someone dares to go back to the days gone bye. Jay Dee never ceases to stir the emotional side of me . We don't listen to the so-called country of today. This is a reminder of why we don't. Superb all the way. |

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but what ever became of Jan Brown? |

Brandin,
Do you know what kind of amp JD was using? Awesome string separation! |

When he can use an amp JayDee usually records with one stock Session 400 Limited, with or without his rack. I played bass on a session with him in July and he used one amp, no rack. He uses the two Evans in stereo with his rack for louder live gigs, although I've seen him play smaller venues with one Session 400 Limited and no rack gear. Sadly. there's nothing really trick about his gear, although he is a stickler for tone. He does run a lot of high end, which may be where that string definition lies, and he doesn't play wimpy, but as far as I can tell all that awesome-ness comes straight out of him. |
