I went to the Station Inn Monday night, some of the regulars was gone with Vince Gill to Ca, Had Tommy White on steel, David Smith On doghouse bass, the durmmer was Duffy Jackson what a show did he put on, great scat singer, had Mandy Barnett sitting in for Dawn Sears. It was a really fun night Tommy played great. The place was pretty much sold out before they open the doors.

The same group played the Monday after Labor Day when I was there. Awesome show! I did miss Dawn and Paul though. |

I was there, too. Tommy looked so at ease and obviously enjoying himself. The group was enjoyable to listen to. Duffy was something else! |

Jerry,
Thank you so much! That is such a fun band. Kenny always gets world class players for subs. The audience is always enthusiastic and receptive. Pizza at the Station Inn is pretty darn good too! |

Ron, I certainly understand traveling and paying to hear your favorites play, only to find they're not at the perfomance. So sorry you were disappointed. You are certainly welcome to post on the forum to ask who will be there next time, should you decide to visit again. You are also welcome to email me through the Steel Guitar Forum for a schedule of when I'll be in for my friend Paul Franklin. |

We were there on Sept 19th and Tommy White was filling in for Paul. He did an awesome job as he always does. I told Tommy that he's surely headed for the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. Mandy Barnett was there also and she is as good a singer as there is. Very easy to look at too. I'm just sayin.... |

Dan, so glad you enjoyed yourself. I'm sure the Time Jumpers and especially Mandy Barnett appreciate the compliment and your patronage. And yes, I was at ease having a great time playing that timeless music! Always great to see you my friend!

It's great that there is flexibility in the band - it gives the regular members the opportunity to continue with their other projects knowing that the band will carry on using deps.
Monday nights at the Station Inn in Nashville are a must for those who like to hear world class players having a ball themselves. I have heard the Jumpers a number of times. Paul does a fantastic job, but so too did Buck Reid and Tommy when they depped on a couple of my visits. Not to forget too that Johnny Cox was the original steel player in the Time Jumpers. Nashville is spoilt for choice for marvellous players of all instruments. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Well said, Ken. First time I saw them Johnny was the steel player (he had that triple-necked Zum there!) but I had gone specifically to see my friend Andy play guitar.
It was wonderful that night, but the band has grown in so many ways since then. I'd be torn if I had to make a choice between Paul and Tommy but either way it'd be a music-lesson for me!
I also give the TJs credit for opening my mind to the potential of an instrument which, after too many years playing too many Irish pubs in London, I'd grown to hate! Jeff Taylor's accordion is always exquisite.
Tommy: I look forward to seeing you at the gig one of these days. Talk about value-for-money!!! _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Ken and I - both being from the Old Country - use the word 'dep'. In my experience here in the Colonies 'sub' is the more common choice. _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Sorry Chris - Roger is right, we use the expression 'to dep or depping' when you use 'sub or subbing'. As musicians (or muso's) in the UK we often ring each other to get a player to deputise (or dep in UK parlance) for us if we can't make a gig.
My fault for using a UK colloquialism.
Sorry to cause the topic drift. Yes, Tommy should definitely be in the SGHOF (or should that be sghof) _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator.
