The prolific jazz guitarist Bill Frisell has released a collection of songs by John Lennon called All We Are Saying... (link goes to Amazon.com - also available on iTunes if you prefer).
The band for this recording consists of Bill Frisell (guitar), Jenny Scheinman (violin), Tony Scherr (bass), Greg Leisz (steel guitars) and Kenny Wollesen (drums). Greg is given a lot of room within the songs and does a great job. His playing seems to be split about 50/50 between pedal steel and lap steel.
If you're a fan of the music of John Lennon, you might like these songs. I think it's great myself.

I've been living with it for a few weeks now...its brilliant. Across the Universe (1st) is worth the price of admission by itself...and there are 15 more tracks. Great arrangements, great ensemble playing and Greg L. puts on a master class for instruments played with a bar.

Just a bit of a side note of possible interest in addition to the CD news. There is, or was (?), a full concert recording from a London event of many of these tunes that was offered from the Bill Frissell website http://www.billfrisell.com/artists/Frisell/store_link.html . --no drums, but really fleshed out intros and endings that take on the loose improv character of the band getting the vibe happening for the tune. -really nice to hear the actual untouched flow of the whole show too.

Bought it. I love it! Probably a bit on the mellow side for rock fans, but the arrangements are really cool.

Greg used my Pedal Steel Amp on this recording - as a side note Very Happy

The record is fantastic - Greg truly proves his mastery of the steel guitar on this one. Some very complex arrangements.
