I found this to be the most detailed and concise view of all the elements of a 6L6GC power tube I've ever seen. Interestingly it was mentioned in other places that the Mullard factory put out 500,000 vacuum tubes a day at it's peak. Note how the control and screen grids have to be precisely aligned and how the getterer works. Any slight variation in these construction details can affect gain, noise, linearity, life, capacitance etc. No wonder some tubes work better than others! There's many different ways to construct a 6L6 and still call it a 6L6!

very cool!

too bad those winged C tubes are getting harder and harder to find - they are probably the best new tubes you can get

If they could only make transistors glow I might like them better! Besides that, there's a certain smell to well aged tube equipment after it heats up.

I think its the Phenolic in the tube sockets and Carbon Comp resistors that smells so strong. Plus all of the smoke and dust of a well loved amp when it heats up is very distinct.

My amps smell like Pine - not bad! I wonder how long it will take before they smell like Phenolic?
