yes its a pedal steel but really only holding down on one pedal is all. 10 strings are hard to make a slant work. basic E6th tuning here the 9th string on my guitar is pulled to a B if you have a 8 string lap just tune your 8th string up to a B. the other B in the tuning is lowered to a Bb also by this pedal for this one if you have a lap you will have to use your tilt. the tuning is for my guitar F#,G#,E,C#,B,G#,E,C#,A,E now if you have a 8 string lap it will be the same from the 2nd string to the 9th G#,E,C#,B,G#,E,C#,A, again for this tune bring your 8th up to a B

I could be wrong, but I thought "I'm So Lonesome" was Jerry Byrd, not Don Helms.

It's Jerry Byrd's playing on this tune.

Borrowed from Forumite Walter Stettner:

"Here's the list of songs that Jerry recorded with Hank:

11/06/1947:

Rootie Tootie
I Can't Get You Off Of My Mind
I'm A Long Gone Daddy
Honky Tonkin'

11/07/1947:

My Sweet Love Ain't Around
The Blues Come Around
Mansion On The Hill
I'll Be A Bachelor 'Til I Die

12/22/1948:

Lost On The River
There'll Be No Teardrops Tonight
I Heard My Mother Praying For Me
Lovesick Blues

08/30/1949:

I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
A House Without Love
I Just Don't Like This Kind Of Livin'
My Bucket's Got A Hole In It (2 Takes)

Other players on Hank's recordings include Dale "Smokey" Lohman (Early recordings), also Don Davis played one or two sessions with Hank. From 1950 on it was Don Helms."
