I have an Eimac power tube number Y-512B.
It looks like either a large high voltage rectifier or perhaps a high power triode transmitting tube.
4 pins at the base and a plate cap on top.
I cannot find a smell of information about it on the web. I've found several Eimac tube listings/charts/catalogs and none of them have info about that tube.
I'd really like to know the purpose/function of this tube to see if it would be useable as a 5 mHz power amplifier.
Is Eimac still in business? I cannot find any connection to them.
Thanks any and all for any info you can provide. _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |

Ray,
All I could find is that it's a power tetrode requiring a 26V filament. Saw a used one listed for $750, but as you say no specs.
Eimac is part of CPI

You can try them for more specifics.

Ray,
Eimac is indeed still in business. Communications and Power Industries (CPI) is the company that was formed when Varian Associates sold off many of their operating divisions years ago. Microwave Tubes, TWTs, and Eimac power tubes are still manufactured at the original (formerly) Varian facilities in Palo Alto, California.
I work there and will inquire tomorrow about the Y-512B. If it is a glass envelope tube it was probably manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah. Both the Salt Lake City plant and the San Carlos, CA plants have been closed and their propety (real estate) sold many years ago. |

Holy Smokes folks: The response and information is beyond my wildest... Thanks for the info and I look forward to finding out what this animal can do.
I'm really interested in generating a pulse of 5 cycles of 5 mHz energy at about 400 volts to send to a piezoelectric transducer for immersion ultrasonic inspection.
In the olden days they stacked 5 SCRS in series and just fired a 400 vdc burst at it. I can't afford a store bought linear amp at the moment so "dig we must!".
Gary; Thanks for whatever you can dig up for me. I really appreciate it. _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |
