I have just completed replacing IC chips on my Peavey Nashville 112. By following Ken's instructions anyone should be able to replace the chips. I have not tried my Zum through it yet but I tried my Mexican Strat through it and it works. Thank you Ken for your service.

Thanks, Lyle. We just got back from a trip to Nashville and modded a bunch of N-112, N-400 and even N-1000 amps while there. Everyone seemed equally pleased with the new tone the chips provided.

What differences should I expect to hear with a mod in my new Nashville 112? Also is shipping available to Canada?

Just got through installing the chip set. My 112 now has more punch than I ever thought possible with a 12 inch speaker. Money well spent.

We ship regular mail outside the US for the price posted on our website.

All I can say is it is a very nice sound improvement. Describing an amp's tone is pretty subjective, like trying to compare two brands of bottled water. All I can say is it is a well accepted change and we are using them in many Peavey amps now with great results.

I did a batch of amps for Mike Johnson (including a N-1000, N-112 and several N-400) and he was very pleased with all the amps. Mike played his N-400 with the intense mod and the new chips at the Nashville Super Jam. Of couse, Mike sounds great playing any amp!

Ken do you know if Peavey ever upgraded to the 2604 chip on the NV 1000 during their production run?

If my NV112 is compatible,I'm going to do the Ken Fox mod,but not having gotten under the hood of a 112 I have a couple of Q's about disassembly:
First, does the chassis need to come out of the amp,or can the new IC chips be installed through the hole in the top of the cab that is covered by the plastic ventilation grille.
If the chassis does have to come out, does it slide out the back,or does the speakerboard have to come off first and the chassis slides out the front of the amp? Can the speaker wires and reverb cables be unplugged,or do they need to be unsoldered?
Finally, where should I look for the IC chips that will be switched out? If I know which ones they are,I can figure out if they're soldered and unswitchable(in which case the amp goes back together) or plugged in,making the next step an e-mail to Ken.Anyone have pics?
Thanks in advance,guys.

Its the same mod for the NV 1000 and Ken included instructions and a schematic for the chip locations. Its simply five IC chips that are replaced. Its very easy to do on the NV1000 and I think its similar on the 112. It requires removing the bolts on top to slide the chassis out the back. The speaker and reverb wires are easy to remove as well. Just be careful pulling the old chips out, and putting in the new ones in the right direction (they only go in one way). You have to press them in and will hear a click when the chip is seated properly. Also discharge any body static, preferably with a wrist grounding strap of some sort before touching them. The new 112 cant be modded easily since they are soldered, so make sure you have an older model first. Well worth the time, cost and effort IMO.

The kit does come with instrucitons. The same circuit board is used in both the N112 and N1000 amps. A forum memmber recommended laying the amp on it's side to remove the chassis. That works really well! Less chance of the chassis getting away and dropping on the speaker!

Here are a few shots of a circuit board with the I.C. sockets that can be user modded:

Another thumbs up for the chip mod. I put the Burr Brown chips in the first 112 I had, and put the newer chips in the N-112 I have now. Makes the amp come ALIVE. Very pleased with mine. Smile

An interesting day...
The IC chips arrived today-now THAT's quick. Thanks Ken! OK,the chips went in easily;the amp sounds subtly better and I do like what's going on,but there's no reverb, and if I turn the reverb control up,it starts feeding back.I did all the work,so if there was a mistake,I made it.Ideas, anyone? Or is it tech time?
Thanks
Dave

Make sure the reverb chip (one of the 5) is plugged in good, and no legs are hanging out.

Yup.Ken was right. One of the little legs on what I now know is the reverb chip didn't get into the socket and was bent almost double.I straightened it out and verrrry carefully got the chip back in.Everything's fine now.Even playing thru it for a couple of minutes at home I could tell it's more present and,as another poster said, punchier. Can't wait to get this little guy out onstage.

Ken,thanks for a brilliant mod and double thanks for troubleshooting! Very Happy Very Happy
