Any recommendations for light weight cases for short quick trips to gigs or practice? _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |

Kevin Hatton makes light weight steel cases. Either a one piece or a two piece set. If you are going for lighter, then the two piece set is preferred.
I just built my own lighter two piece case set. I'm not in the case building business so the reason to refer you to forumite Kevin Hatton. |

How is it possible to get any lighter than a Stage One case?.....or is this for a different guitar? _________________ Always remember you're unique..... Just like everyone else |

He didn't say what he wanted it for but his sig lists a ShoBud Professional.
(There are more steel guitars than a Stage One) |

I have a Wilcox steel that am coverting to C6th and will use in occasional situations. The Stage One is just fine the way it is. Thanks for the contacts. I wasn't sure if Hatton's cases were considered light weight or not. _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |

I use the Wheel-EZE case that Sierra used to modify for steels; very lightweight and good enough protection that I fly all over the world with it. (Caveat: it is not rated as an ATA flight case.)
Basically, it's an SKB molded drum case that you can buy at MusiciansFriend.com or a bunch of other places, then custom foam to support the steel off the bottom and around the sides, etc. Works great and, as long as I put the legs and pedal rack into my suitcase, I can get my Franklin or my MSA Millenium D-10 under 50 lbs in this case. _________________ www.JimCohen.com

What Jim says .... check out this thread Fred - Note to Jim: the newer version which I have., has got the ATA lockable latches on it.

I had one of the Wheeleeze cases made for my Franklin D-10 in 1996 and sent it back. It was poorly modified inside and the guitar would scrape the bare sides of the case. The top part was for the legs and pedal bar but the only way to get them all in there required not using any rod/leg bag and no protective lining. Just everything bare to rub together and scratch up.
Needless to say I returned the case and it took a long time to get my money back. Don claimed I gave him the wrong measurements but I had the guitar at St Louis and he came up to the hotel room and took the measurements himself. |

I'll probably be getting two cases. One for the SD10 Wilcox, and a split case for my old Fender 2000. I've got some homework to do here. _________________ Zum Encore, Zum Stage One, Fender 2000, Harlan Bros., Multi-Kord, |
