Up for sale or trade is a 1960 Guild 99J. Guild amps from this period are fairly rare, but they are excellently-built amps that reflect Guild's focus on the jazz market. The amp sounds a bit like a contemporary Ampeg Rocket - it can get a similarly smooth clean sound with the treble rolled off - but it appears to be an unrelated circuit. When turned up, it overdrives easily with a tone that I'd put between a Rocket and a tweed Fender Pro. The four inputs (two per channel) have different resistor values giving a range of useful tones.
The amp takes two 6L6s, a GZ34 rectifier and three 12AX7s; it comes with a mix of new and old tubes. It has its original Guild-branded Oxford 12" alnico speaker, but I believe it has been reconed. Some caps have also been replaced, but as far as I know the major components are original. The handle is a replacement (the original shredded from age), but otherwise the amp is pretty clean all over. There is a slight cabinet rattle at high volumes, and the tremolo intensity needs to be most of the way up before the effect is heard, but otherwise the amp is in great working order.
While I really like this amp, I have two others in its power range and want to let this one go. I will sell it outright for $525 (paypal/shipped in the continental US) but will consider trades for smaller (practice-sized) vintage tube amps. I can even throw in a bit of cash if necessary. I may also consider trading for a vintage lap or console steel.
