I was fortunate enough to be at the Continental Club in Austin Saturday afternoon for the Redd Volkaert and friends show. Ricky Davis was playing steel with Redd. It was my first opportunity to hear Ricky play with a group that actually encourages instrumental work. I was impressed. Ricky did a fabulous job hanging with Redd, who plays almost everything at warp speed. They had alot of guitar harmonies worked out and sounded great. Ricky also did a good job on backup vocals. Be sure to check it out if you're in Austin on a Saturday afternoon.

Alberta's loss is Austin's gain. Red is the real deal.

All of us from Alberta are very proud of Redd. Speaking for myself, when it gets to be 40 degree's below 0 here...my body starts to ache for a warmer climate! What is the temperature in Austin?
Best regards. ..jeff

Jeff
Saturday afternoon in Austin was great with blue skies and the temp in the mid 70s. But in August I wish I was in Alberta.

Ricky,

Do you and Redd have any plans to hit the road? I'd love to catch you up here in DC.

BTW, I love your playing on the Bill Kirchen CD.

Thanks Ya'll. Thanks Larry; it was nice meeting you.
Steve; if Redd needs me whenever/whereever he goes> I'm There. I don't know of any plans to go out on the road; but every now and then, Redd will get a festival somewhere and I'll go(check his schedule at www.reddvolkaert.com) Also every now and then Redd and I will get hired to cut on someones CD(yes we are for HiRe!!!ha.)and we may play a gig or two with them. Redd Dropped out of the Merle Haggard Band about the same time I came off the road with Dale Watson and so Me and Redd just pick Locally together and separate in a variety of situations and bands; So ya gotta come here most likely if'n ya wanna catch us.
Ricky
