What strings can i use on a Harlin Brother's 6 string 4 pedal steel to do open D tuning??

I have used these string gauges on my Multi-Kords for years.

.016,-.017,-.022 plain

.028,-.038,-.049 wound

They work good for me for just about any tuning I want to put on it.

I would think standard heavy electric spanish guitar strings should work well too.
