Hey steelers, especially if you dig acoustic blues and George Harrison sitar stylings: I concur with Loni, do check out the website, which is a flash-filled doozy (you'll need the latest Flash player, a free download), and you can hear 5 or so songs from his latest CD, full versions too! I hope it inspires you to check out Harry Manx, I'd never heard of him till Loni's post: THANKS LONI!!!
I'm going to try to make the show, and the Coffee Gallery Backstage is a wonderful, tiny and intimate venue run by people who truly care about quality live music, see you there! It's only $15 cover. |

I've never been to this venue, but I hear it's cozy and coffee fumes aplenty!
I made a RedNeck equipt Strat for Harry and sent it to him a couple months ago. I doubt he's had time to incorporate any electric stuff in his set yet . He told me he hadn't touched an electric guitar since the early eighties!
Hope to meet some forum folks at this gig! :0 |

I play there frequently and it is indeed a cool little place. The owner Bob Stane, used to run another joint called the Ice House in Pasadena in the 60s and 70s and that was a very hip venue as well. I'm gonna try to catch Harry's set on Tuesday if I possibly can. -MJ- |

Just got back from catching Harry's show tonight. All I can say is WOW! The guy's amazing. He's easily in the same class with Ry Cooder,John Hammond Jr. and Richard Thompson. Harry did 2 solo sets and played a 20 string Mohan Vina which is basically a 7 string acoustic lap steel guitar w/13 sympathetic strings underneath the played strings. He also played a Martin D-35 with the strings jacked up dobro style and a 6-string Banjo strung up baritone. Oh yeah he also played a normal guitar on one tune. He has more detail and finesse than ANY dobro or slide player and he takes the concept of playing in tune to the Nth degree. He played a unique fingerpicked style that encompassed bass lines, funky rhythm chops and real inventive slide lines - all while he sang and played blues harp on a brace around his neck. He has an fascinating blend of Celtic modal,Indian ragas and Delta blues. This guy is extremely musical.

Mike nailed it about Harry's style and expertise. There are a couple of pics I shot on 'no pedlers' now! I used the 'solarize' setting on my Sony Mavica FD 83 for you photo nuts. (only one megapixel) You members that did not show missed out big time! |

If OC = Orange County, can you tell me where and what time? I cannot open Harry's Web site, and when I try to download the flash, my hourglass stays open for many minutes but nothing happens. Thanks. |

sorry I didn't see your post sooner
His website is pretty graphics heavy. Time to upgrade your PC. Heck, it's only money! |
