A friend called to say that a local music store in his area has a ZB S-11 for sale.He was informed that it is a consignment piece from the estate of a recently widowed lady.I do not know what price they are asking. My friend says it has 3 pedals 4 knees and hard case. The color is a blue and natural finish. My friend estimated it's overall condition (on a one to ten scale) as an eight.I don't have pictures.I have not seen the guitar.Although my feelings about ZB's were posted previously on the lengthy ZB thread,I am considering purchasing this ZB if it is available at an "opportunity" (good for me-the prospective buyer) price only. I know the used pedal steel market is rather deflated right now, but any of the ZB lovers here can feel free to chime in as to what it's likely to be worth. Thanks. P.W. |

Totally depends on the condition. Can't say without knowing. |

Kevin H-I realize that you have much expertise in these-My friend described it as an "8" on a scale of 1 to 10. (He has a some years of experience with steel guitars and vintage instruments-just not familiar with Z.B steels)
He said it had a few minor bar dings in the wood on the back (players side). If one was to "assume" that it is all completely there, totally functional, and unmodified, then what might the(ballpark)value be?
I'm Just looking for a fair estimate so that if I do buy it and then decide to sell it in the not too distant future, I won't have over-spent. (I did do a Forum search to try and determine this but every time I put in Z.B. or Z.B. Custom, I get no topics or posts match). That, coupled with the fact that I do not do Ebay made me think of posting here for opinions of the value. |

Paul I would say 1500.00 to 1900.00 if it has a case. The mechanics of the guitar make a big difference like Kevin said. The prices vary so much on these guitars it makes if hard to nail down. Just know there are people who highly respect these instruments. Me for one.We are in a very soft market for buying and selling right now so I would look at the minimum investment. If you get it show us some pics. Usually very nice maple.
Good luck. |

Like Chuck said. It could be $1500-$1900, or it could be $1000.00 depending on the condition and the year. They vary widely depending on the condition and the year. If you know where there is a ZB S-11 for less than a grand, please let me know because I want to buy it. |

Thanks to all who replied to my question about the Z.B. Apparently, the only person who can set the price or negotiate the sale is the owner of the music store, who seems to not be spending much time in his shoppe lately. ![Confused](images/smiles/icon_confused.gif)

I've finally gotten through to the seller-His price is firm. He is asking a fair amount which is about the most that I would consider paying for it.Not really an "opportunity buy" to my thinking. I am going to check it out anyway (tentatively) on Friday.
Kevin H-The seller mentioned that he had the guitar's value "appraised" by a ZB expert on the east coast. I mentioned your name and that you are in New York and he said your name sounded like who he spoke to.Do you recall speaking to Him about it? |

Paul, I speak to Him every night when I pray before I go to bed! But, about the guy with the SD-11, I can't recall him. |

Kevin-I guess you mean God is the real ZB expert! Seller must have spoken to somebody else because he said the guitar was made around 1975. I figure somebody checked on the serial number for him. If it wasn't you and wasn't Billy Knowles (I spoke to Billy on phone about it-wasn't him) I wonder who he got the info from? |

I got to check the ZB out Friday-SURPRISE-Same horn that I owned 29 years ago serial #0690 Condition not so great (not an "8" in my opinion- like my friend thought) Right knee levers (working E string changes) are way too far to the left-I was centered at about the 11th fret instead of around the 15th to try and play it. The pickup had become "unmounted" and was totally loose in the pickup slot.It did not appear to be "top mounted" as there are no screws or screw holes visable from the top. There were none visable underneath either making me think that perhaps the pickups were mounted from the bottom, in which case the holes are under the changer. If this is the case then just re-mounting the pickup would require a total tear-down to fix-Not a job that I would want to tackle Needless to say, I passed on it. The guy at the music store said he had an offer of $950.
I advised him to accept that offer and he said he was going to.
b0b you can close this thread up-Thank you. |
