Hi folks,
I found both of these amps in my vicinity and I'm wondering which one I should go for. How do they compare in terms of weight, size and sound? I think the 15' black widow speaker makes me want to go with the N400, but the 112 sounds pretty convenient, with the headphone out and the lighter weight... Also, how much should I pay for either of them? Thanks! |

The 400 is louder and heavier. The 112 may not cut it for you if your playing in a big loud band. ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I've owned both amps, and my pick is the Nashville 112. It's light weight, and sounds awesome with the addition of Ken Fox's latest chip mod. The chips are around $30 and easy to put in. You can always mic the N-112 if need be. They sell on the forum for $400 or less all the time.
The N-400 is heavey, but they sound real good. With Ken Fox's extensive mod they sound even better. $400 and under without the Fox mod, $500 and over with the Fox mod

both great amps - probably go down in steel lore as 2 of the best, either one is a winner, just depends on your needs - the last N400 i found in a pawn shop, i got for $150 - cant beat that! _________________ '65 Sho-Bud D-10 Permanent • '54 Fender Dual-8 • Clinesmith T-8 • '38 Ric Bakelite • '92 Emmons D-10 Legrande II |

love the NV400 but they are not all the same .. some sound better than others .. If you find one that has that sound keep it.. the NV 112 was not my cup of tea so to speak. I could not get a sound i liked from it so I moved it on .. I went through 2 NV 400's the second one had the magic .. It was the last Peavey year they made them and has some improvements built in from the factory. all the hardware is black .. the corners, the amp straps .. all black ..killer with my Emmons U12.
The problem is not all steels sound the same through all amps .. once you find "the sound " keep it .. one steel one amp .. its symbiotic i believe .. I also love the Fender Vibrasonic for large venues and the Fender Deluxe Reverb with a JBL E or D for small venues. |

On the early Nashville 400's, I believe a mod kit is generally recommended to bring them up to speed. I have a couple of 400's and bought the mod kits from Peavey but haven't gotten around to putting them in yet.
It's not easy being a "gear head". ![Rolling Eyes](images/smiles/icon_rolleyes.gif) |
