There will be a reunion concert by the Billy Spears Band at 7:00 PM Saturday 10/29 at the Eagles Club Ballroom at 1803 W. 6th St. in Lawrence, KS. Billy is a great fiddle player who once worked with such greats as Jean Shepard and T Texas Tyler. This version of the band toured extensively throughout the Midwest in the early to mid 1970's. The concert is a benefit for the drummer in the group, Bud Pettit, who is currently battling lymphatic cancer. Please join us if you can. |

Boy, would I love to make that one. Playing at the Billy Spears Boogie in Michigan with my first band was an early high point for me. Great, fun band. |

Hi Mark
There will be a lot of guests, but we are going to feature one set by the band that played at the Odee Acres parties in Kalamazoo. Andy Curry on bass, Bud on drums, Jimmy Ray Law on guitar, Billy on fiddle, Carol Spears on vocals and me on the steel. It should be a lot of fun. |

I need to know if this is the Billy Spears that I new back in the 50's at Oklahoma State Tech School in Okmulgee, Ok. My twin brother Warren and I played in a small band with a great, great fiddle player by this name. I do recall that this person played a lot in Calf. before this time. He hailed from Hartshorne, Ok. We would set up in bars and play for tips! I would like to know how to contact Billy. I would give anything if my brother and I could attend this event. |

It must be. Billy grew up in Hartshorne and most of the family are fiddle players. If you email me through the forum I'll give you his contact info. |

Hi, Bob, if you were with Billy at the 2nd Odee Acres show, you were one of my earliest influences. I played that show with Last Call as one of our first festival gigs. I think that's the show Doug Kershaw headlined, played two and a half songs, and walked off stage...
Those sure were some great times. |

Hi Mark
I was there and I remember Last Call - you guys were great. I also remember the Twang Brothers from those days. I'll tell you some more Kershaw stories if we ever get together. |
