Well first off Jody Sanders was really missed at the meeting. I hope you feel better soon Jody! The Billy Mata band featuring Roger Edgington did a great set of music. Randy Boyd played great as he always does. Mark and his wife did some great tunes. Special thanks to Billy and Patty for all they do for putting on the meetings. Oh and as always I learned something at the meeting. Thanks to all the guys for letting me be a part of all of it.

Also anyone heard from Bobby Bowman since he had his surgery?

Roger and crew put on an entertaining and impressive show - full of great tunes and featuring some super steel playing. The way these guys work together to produce such a rich full sound is really something. Steel, fiddle, and guitar parts all arranged around a very strong vocalist, with 3-part harmonies and all complimenting each other. I'm looking forward to picking up a few of their CDs.

The jam was great too - with Randy, Bubba, and Mark all playing some great stuff.

David W. is an awesome guitar player, he put just the right touch into every tune. I forget the bass player's name, but he was great too. And of course, no one plays the electronic drum machine like Billy Phelps....!

Hey Jody hope you are feeling better soon we sure missed you buddy. Great day in Katy. Roger and the BMTT were great and hope they come back soon. Everyone did a great job and we really enjoyed it all. This was Anna's first Katy Jam and she really love it. Thank God she loves steel guitar. Thanks to all who make our jam such a big success.

I agree, we were treated with the best. It's amazing to watch the bands interplay. Each knows the others to a T. Close harmonys a smooth exchanges. Roger's use of the C6 neck is impressive. Billy's vocals are great on either Gene Watson or Tommy Duncan type songs. Check out their website and pick up a CD or two. Thanks guys for coming.

James, The bass player is Bill Holt from Wharton,Texas. Our drummer was on vacation out of state. Sometimes we also have a young girl playing second fiddle and on bigger jobs sometimes Floyd Domino on piano. Floyd is on our last 3 CDs and has traveled to Poland and California with us.

Yea I forgot to mention David's guitar skills. That man knows more chord inversions than a Mel Bay chord books. And of course he knows where to put them all and how to play some sweet solos as well. Like Jim said in his post some great three part stuff going on with the Steel Fiddle and the Guitar. If you have the chance to hear the Billy Mata band, do it, you will not be Disappointed!

I have to tell you that I have been wanting to come to one the SET club meetings for a while, and I'm glad I did. It was a ton of fun, and it was great to meet those of you who were there.

One of the fun things I like about our band is when the guys play parts - steel, fiddle, and guitar. If I could talk Richard into breaking out his mandolin once in a while, that would really be knocked out. These guys are so talented, and it's a real privilege to play with them. It was also a real privilege to play at the club.

Here's a link to a song that let's Roger take a nice pass:

Lady Be Good

I do not play steel, but I love it. I determined early on that one note at a time (maybe two) was best-suited for me. Laughing

You just have to be wired the right way to do everything you guys do with multiple strings, necks, tunings, pedals, levers, etc. I'm in awe of anyone who attempts to play steel, and no one except a steel player loves it more than me.

James, thanks for the compliment. I don't play steel, but I did the next best thing and became a paid member of the Steel Guitar Forum a few years back. (Plus, it helps me aggravate Roger when we're not working somewhere. Mr. Green )

Hope to see all of you again soon!

Bill

Bill, Thanks for that. I was mesmorized by your play at the jam. Wow! You really get into a tune. I always enjoy the true bass fiddle. The electric bass will do in a pinch, but theres nothing like the real thing. Thanks for coming and do come back often.
