I recently had a thread called "Growing Up With The Greats". Well, this photo here pretty much says it all. I do need some help here identifying all of the faces.
1st row - I think I have these all right....Ralph Mooney, Tommy Roots, Rick Campbell (guitarist), Garland Harris, Zane Beck, Herb Remington, and ME! Imagine that!
2nd Row - Billy Bowman (I think?) , Jeff Newman, Speedy West, Bobby Garrett (), Buddy Emmons, unknown Dale Wagner, then Bobby Caldwell (guitarist) and Jimmy Crawford.
3rd Row - Al Brisco, Bill Stafford, Jess Hurt, Dell Mullen, and Herby Wallace.
4th Row - Tom Brumley, Randy Beavers, Julian Tharpe, Paul Franklin, unknown, Doug Jernigan, unknown, Rob Hajacos (fiddle), Russ Weaver, Bud & Geri Isaacs, and Scotty.
How is that for a who's who? Now do you believe me that I grew up with the greats? ))
I'm looking forward to you helping me identify and verify the unknown faces.

Hi Zane,
FYI, I am the player in the 3rd row left side to the right of Bill Stafford.
In the 4th row I believe it is Donna Hammit between Doug Jernigan & Rob Hajacos, & possibly Delores Hancock to the right of Doug Jernigan.
Regards,

Zane, I believe the players in the 3rd row, from left 4 & 5, are Dave Hayward (in Blue T-shirt) and Gerry Hogan (in Baseball Cap) from England.

Donna, this must be 1983 because "Moon" was there and this was the year he was inducted in the Hall of Fame. Waylon and Jessie were also present to pay tribute to Ralph. I met Ralph in Stockholm, Sweden later the same year while on tour with Waylon.

We would have been there in '83. I would have only been 11 and played on the Thursday talent night. The girl in the picture looks like she has bigger hair than I did then, but I guess it's possible. |

Donna, I was there in 1984 and I remember you from the Jeff Newman seminar held at the convention. As I remember, some guy sitting next to me in Jeff's class, told me that you had just been starting playing steel by then, right? I remember you had a double neck Franklin? It was a great convention that year as I recall and also my first trip to the USA (I was 18 by then). Where did all the years go! |
