Has anyone out there ever used a powered PA speaker as a Steel amp?? If so, what kind of luck did you have??

Two weeks ago I had to travel by train (without my amp). I knew that the PA company provided active monitors (db M-12/2), so I brought a tech21 Blonde and a HolyGrail+ and hooked them up to one of the wedges.

I could easily dial in the sound that I was looking for.
I´d recommend this, or a similar setup (like a pod maybe), kind of a Swiss army knife for flygigs if you are not sure what to expect at the venue!

I would think that a POD XT or similar variant with a JBL Eon or similar Mackie product would make a pretty bitchin' steel guitar rig.

Tks for the tips...I hooked a Vox ToneLab up to a Yamaha active speaker that I have and to my surprise,it works very well, and is very portable. The Yamaha also makes for a great acoustic guitar amp.

I have found a PA setup to be too sterile. If your using no amp use some pre amp to dirty it up a bit. An Art mic pre amp works wonders. 12AX7 up front smooth's out the dry PA signal.
