Hi, im wondering if the pickup is to close to the strings on my Rains SD10 will it hinder the sustain of the guitar? i cant get it any lower and its still almost touching the strings, im toying with the idea of putting a Wallace Tru Tone in place of the George L's Humbucker, any sugestions?

Hey Des is there anything under the pickup that might be hindering you ability to lower it ?? You should be able to slide 2 stacked 10c pieces (kiwi) between the strings and the pickup and still be able to move them a bit ... maybe it has some sort of packing under it which could be removed ?? I never thought to check that when I set the guitar up for you..... if you get stuck bring it over with you next time your coming across the mountains mate.

The GeorgeL pickups are encased in that black plastic covering so they can be placed as close to the strings as a single coil pickup. Like Paddy says though, should be enough room to move them around a little.

HI Paddy, yes mate i can get two 10 cent coins stacked under the strings and still have a very slight gap left, but the pickup is still wound down as low as it will go, i can adjust it up plenty, but not down any more than it is now. the pickup sits on a small slab of wood in the cavity, and to get it out i would need to de solder the connections which i wouldn't attempt, ha ha.
but i still like the idea of a single coil pickup, i have single coils on all my six string guitars bar one, which is a Gibson ES 335 and my les Paul Deluxe has mini humbuckers, i hate the sound of the 335 lol and might put some p90's in it, anyway thanks for you help, will bring it over next time im in CHCH hope all is well with you over there, Des
