How many members play the Jay Turser resonator guitar ?
It has some unique features; a piazzo pickup under the bridge and a separate magnetic pickup, which can be blended. Its main fault lies in that it has a thin body, like the Fender Coronado or the Hofner Verithin, which means that, when played acoustically and not plugged into an amplifier, it doesn't have a great booming volume like a Dobro. Played electrically it sounds pretty good, and the resonator sound comes out well.

As it comes, the guitar is built to be played as a regular guitar. I have a nut riser on mine and keep it tuned to open G. It has a bolt-on neck, so I'm thinking of building a new square-section neck for it. I might convert it into an 8-string when I do that.

I have a "regular" (i.e., not thin, non-cutaway) Jay Turser reso with the same configuration. You can get some interesting sounds with the two pickups. Played it with an adaptor in high G for quite a while; finally put on a higher bridge and a higher bone nut, and now play it in C6.

I'm surprised that in such a large steel guitar fraternity there aren't more members who own one of these.

Well, it's not designed to be used as a lap steel, and there are many different squareneck resonator guitars with pickups that sound better than these guitars. I'm glad you like yours, but I wouldn't want one myself.

I'd like to have one for bottleneckin'! Can't afford the similar National. How much do these go for? Still available? What's the name/model number?

Edit; JT-Res, still available. $319 from Musician's Friend. Anyone wanna trade for a squareneck Morrell?
