For your listening pleasure; the late, great Mickey Newbury singing "Makes Me Wonder If I Ever Said Goodbye" (my favorite song of his). With Buddys: Emmons on steel and Spicher on fiddle:

Thanks for posting this Glenn. It's funny that I was thinking of another song of his this morning, called Funny familiar forgotten feelings. It was a hit in the sixties by Tom Jones. Not to forget Good morning dear by the Box Tops. Great stuff! _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

Or these other Mickey Newbury Newbury classics that were covered by:
Kenny Rogers and the First Edition ("I Just Dropped In...)

Waylon Jennings ("San Francisco Mabel Joy")

Without a doubt, Mickey Newbury deserved to be a super artist of the same stature as those that covered his songs.
Keep on pickin'!

I guess I'm on a Mickey Newbury 'kick'. Here's another. The "American Trilogy" which was comprised of songs (an American folk song, a religious hymn and a Bahamian gospel) which Mickey didn't write. He just strung them together to create a sum which is, IMO, much greater than it's parts. As we all know, Elvis had a huge hit with this, but once again, I think Mickey "one-upped" the star with his version:
