Some men work at promoting country music, some talk about it, some do nothing. Can I tell you about a man that is making it work in our town.
He brings a band from Jaxsonville to The Spirit Of Suwannee Music Park once amonth, every 2 Sat.
It started out with a small crowd, the local Radio Station 102.1 Power country broadcast the first 2 hours on the radio Live.
Last night we heard the best music you could hear anywhere.
The first night he was here playing for a small crowd after the show I saw him go up to each member of the band and ,out of his pocket gave each man a $100 bill, some said no you gave me gas money to come, he made them keep it anyway. the next month he did the same thing.
I fell in love with him right there but did not say a word. ( there is a pure love you can have for your fellow man ).
Since that first night my family have brought visitors from, Montgomery Al. Memphis Tn. all parts of Fl. South Ga.
Last night from Valdosta, Lake City fl.
Madison Fl. High Springs.
Forum members this is how you make it work not by talking about it but doing something.
WHY DID I WRITE THIS NOTE????
I would like for you to help me think this man, that out of his heart wants to do something to promote country Music, say thanks back to him.
He post his show on the forum and no one says go for it, or you are doing a good job,
Will you join me in saying LONNIE PORTWOOD
we like what you are doing, or you are doing a great job.
We have a show and some will post 30 or 40,boy did we do great. I know it is a poor frog that will not croke his own pond.
Please say now that you know what he is doing Lonnie We thank you for your efforts.
This show has some of the best talent you have heard. I have played since 1945, I am not good enough to carry their equipment on stage.

A 3 day advent is being planed for Dec.

I'm not a forum member. I don't steel, but I love those that do.
I will be lookin for the radio station address and phone number when you post it, and will difinitly contact them.
They must know they could be blacklisted for supporting real country music with fiddle's and steel.
Does lonnie have a website or anything on the net.
I am glad you brought this to the attention of the world.
Keep on keepin on.

Hey Ernie, You are a bonifide "MESS", as we used to say in Georgia!! You should'nt say all those wonderful things about me just because it"s true!I have to correct you on a couple things, Loren Propper, Whom I, ve known since birth, helped him get His first guitar, and chord book, and love like my own son, is The driving force, producer, financier, janitor and all around gofer for the Suncountry Jamboree. If it were'nt for his dedication, we would'nt be there. He has pounded the streets putting out flyers, talking to sponsors, developed the relationships with the radio people, etc. I have helped in other ways, we use my music studio for rehearsels, some of us don't take any pay, alto Loren has helped me with ameneties, etc. The bottom line is, we as a team are doing what we can to provide a venue to exhibit traditional country and western music, to offer an outlet for regional talent to be heard and appreciated. WE are also helped and encouraged by the owners and wonderful staff at The Spirit of The Suwanee Music Park, and people like Ernie and His family. Thanks so very much for all you,re kind words, guys, and come visit us when you,re in fl. By the way, we are in discission about a country music "festival" in late July, 2005, featuring several pro steel players and bands. We,ll keep you posted. The Dec. show will be Sat. nite only, featuring Ruiss and Laney Hicks, and The Hammontree Family. More later. Lonnie Portwood |

Lonnie and I have been friends for many years and played music together..Way to go Lonnie, let me know if I might help in some way. Real country music needs to be heard and there are some good people out there that can help,..if only they will. We are greatful to the few radio stations that are playing real traditional and classic country music. The pastures seem to be too full of good musicians,...they need to work and be heard... thanks for letting me drop in...GO LONNIE!!!!! Ron Elliott |

I will add my 2 cents and say a BIG thanks to Lonnie and Loren. You will always hear real country music at the Sun Country Jamboree. The great songs we all love, as done by Price, Thompson, Wills, Strait, ET, Jones, Wynette, Cline, Reeves, and many more.
Loren and Lonnie both work tirelessly to promote and put on a great show on the 2nd Saturday of each month. It is a nice, clean comfortable venue, with great acoustics.
I have had the privilege of playing steel on many of the shows, and will be on both the November and December shows coming up. A personal thanks to Lonnie and Loren for letting me be a part of the Jamboree.
And thanks to the #1 fans of the Jamboree, Ernest Cawby, and his lovely wife Nan and daughter Belinda. I don't think they have missed one show yet.
