I had heard this "lick" for years and finally figured out how to do it. Never knew who the player was until I saw this video recently. I don't know if he created the "lick" or not, but Weldon Myrick executes it perfectly in this tune, Maybe someone knows where it came from. I think is one of the coolest classic steel licks.

Fwiw, I've always associated that 'lick idea' moreso with Hal Rugg
(dig into some of his work w/Loetta Lynn), however Hal and
Weldon worked 'side-by-side' for so long that it's often
hard to come up with a definitive 'who-dunnit-1st'.
If anyone around here did know for certain,
it'd likely be Paul Franklin.

This short phrase can also be found in the intro to Connie Smith's "Cry, Cry, Cry" (album version).

If I recall that lick was a colaboration betwee Hal, Paul Franklin and I think Jeff Newman. Wouldn't stake the farm on it but I heard that somewhere. I believe Bruce Boutan says something about it on his talk video. I don't have it tabbed out but I can if noone else has.

I've got Bruce Bouton's E9th video and he demonstrates a "Hal Rugg" lick. I've always associated this with Hal and as Paul notes, I first heard it on Loretta Lynn recordings.
