Clean example purchased last year. I'm told the person was the original owner.
'87 top of the line Silver Cloud Sierra Stafford Eleganté SCM14SE Universal 14 from the Crown '25' years. 8 + 7. Brass gearless tuners. 25" scale. Lever LOK. Wheel EZZ Case w/blocked foam fits guitar perfectly.
Engraved Bill Stafford signature on tuner block.
Emmons pedals, KL's etc. with swing away Eb Lever and LOK on LKR.
This is a beautifully appointed guitar with all the goodies Sierra offered at the time. I added the pinstriping on the neck and rear of body. Plays nicely with accurate intonation in all modes. Sounds terrific. Good shape with normal wear. Polishes up to a nice lustre.
Triple range interchangeable Sierra pup w/tone control has great tone.
7 kl's give the owner lots of copedent options. 14 strings allow one to add the low D if desired [common 9th string on E9th] and have 1 extra string to play with.
Exactly the same as a 12 string E9/B6. Just has a duplicate G# on string 1 and big ol' E bass string on the bottom.
I've played Uni's off and on since 1990 but have decided to stay with the D10. I could use the cash for other things, so offering this S14U up for sale.
$1895 plus additional charge for careful packing by me and insured shipping via FedEx estimated to be within the $100 range to nearby east coast/midwest/near south locations. West coast, further distances possibly more $$. Sales to forumites in lower 48. No paypal account. Payment in Guaranteed US funds with shipment deferred until verified.
We can meet 1/2 way if in same region.
Caveats: Front panel "Gearless" decal slightly marred and tiny hole where a stud like an earring was installed at one time.
2 scratches on ft. legs due to set screws that adjust leg inserts touching in folded, packed position.
Light scrapes on body where legs fold and unfold.
Inside corner of A pedal shows moderate wear.
Normal scratches, smudges and dings associated with a gigging guitar. Very good overall condition.
PM or email if more info, photos, etc. are needed.
Pedals 4 and 8 are reversed. Otherwise, this is the basic set-up. There are a couple extra pulls not shown here for the E9th and the 2 inside KL's listed below that work on the B6 side of the tuning.
ILKL raise strings 7 G# to A.
ILKR raises string 8 F# to G.

I'm getting a few emails from folks asking about the 14 string tuning. There's no mystery. It's exactly the same as the modern E9/B6 12 string Universal tuning except for the extra top and bottom strings. More info from Sierra: http://sierrasteels.com/pages/uni.html
You could eliminate those 2 strings if they are confusing.
Some folks like to try different things, so the 14 strings are nice for them. You could put Julian's tuning or variations of other tunings on it. You could even eliminate hardware and make an Extended E9th tuning out of it if you wanted to. |

Jerry, you are absolutely right. I have this same guitar "88" and that is exactly what I've done for years. I simply took off strings 1 and 14 and play it as a 12 string. Great guitars. This is a steal at this price for sure. I wouldn't sell mine for twice that price. _________________ Whip Lashaway

Thank you for the endorsement Whip. I don't know what one could have bought one for, but these guitars listed for more than twice that...up into the $4's at the time.
They're a little heavier than some and unique in design, so not for everybody, I guess. Solid and stable guitars with nice tone and playability.
It's somebody's dream guitar I'm sure. Just have to find the right person.
This is #3 for me, but I've decided to stick with D10's.
Just lost the tranny out of my Blazer today, so really need to sell this one. |
