57 stringmaster, all original. Hard to read serial #. It is 02203. Everything works, volume control a little scratchy. Case is pretty beat up. Pictures show condition pretty accurately. Asking $1200 plus shipping. You can email me at sandetracy@hotmail.com. Thanks, Larry Tracy

Was this put together from different guitars?
It looks like the middle neck doesn't have the same color as the outer two.

Hey Jay, Sorry it took so long to get back to you with an answer. Today was the first day I had a chance to take off the tuning heads and check the dates. You are right the 2 outside necks are from 10/57 and the middle neck is from 5/57. Here are some pictures. Couldn't get a good shot of one neck , the date was pretty faded.

It's amazing how much of a difference there is when there is only a couple of months difference in manufacturing dates.
Was this common for Fender to do? Putting together bodies from different dates? I do not really know a lot about these old SMs.
Do you know the history of this guitar?

I am not sure about steels, but from my experience with strats and teles (and anecdotal data) Leo Fender was a VERY thrifty guy.. In the day, neck plates that were found on the floor (or under machinery etc.) were picked up and thrown back in the bucket to use (regardless of "dates"). Remember, no one thought back in the day that people in 2010 would obsess over details about "correct tuners", which neck plate.. etc.
Nothing went to waste.. guitars were repainted over finishes to meet orders etc., mixed and matched to get out the door was the order of the day! |

What Hal said is really true. Ive rebuilt a bunch of old fender tube amps and theres lots of variation in dates and parts, probably as Hal said due to his using everything.
