I've really admired Jerry Gleason's youtubes of him playing his Dynalap Model 2 lap steel..

So I posted a WTB.. found one but it had issues, so I emailed Mark @ dynalap about parts etc... after a few emails he agreed to build me a brand new one finished like Jerry's model... WOW ! cool ! (He stopped offering his kits awile back)
So I got it and it's a VERY nice guitar indeed ! 3/8" string spacing from bridge to nut.. I had Mark install a Lace Alumitone pickup and also have the Wallace True Tone on hand in case the Lace does not work out, but it sounds fantastic as is, so not sure I'll be swapping it out any time soon.
Not sure if Mark is taking orders at this time or not. He agreed to let me post this so he may be entertaining other orders.. email him to find out ? dynalap@aol.com is his email address...
I'll post better pics soon, but it's basically like Jerry Gleason's model.

You, Mitch, are a VERY lucky and smart guy! I'm interested in hearing it with the AT PU, if you can post a sound clip.
I'd suggest anyone planning on contacting Mark for one, if he's still letting them go for the original costs to strongly consider padding the check a bit to make it nicer for him, as Tom Pettingill said on another thread, Mark was virtually giving them away. They are worth more than he charged.
Now I want one, and I already have one!  WOOHOO! |

Great choice--I love my Dynalap and I'm sure you're going to enjoy yours.
I wish I had grabbed the "Hawaiian" model way back--then I'd have one of each. |

| Man, that AT PU might be the answer to those that want to sound pedal steel-ish without really trying, it had that glassy top that characterizes them. I have the TrueTone out of my DL and might pop an AT in there for fun, and see if it also retains an older tone like the TT. |

Indeed it is a great tone. Jerry might chime in on his setup ?
Wasn't real sure about the Alumitone when it first arrived, but after several days of playing it and tweaking my EQ a bit, it's a very pure sound. The pickup is very high output and dead quiet... has more of a humbucker quality than a single-coil ... I've never played a guitar with a Wallace TT so not sure about swapping out the AT for it right yet.
This guitar has tons of sustain... has some nice heft to the body.. Brass nut (slotted now) and bridge, string-through body. It does get a tad cramped feeling playing at the 1st fret but not a show stopper. Winding the strings UNDER the post helps the tension on the middle strings... might put a two-string tree in there someday ?
All-in-all... a great sounding, playing guitar at an obscene price. I had Mark totally build and finish it for me so that added to the cost, but being a total klutz there was no way I could do this good a job by myself.
BTW, for anyone interested, I have a BIAB track and the TablEdit for "Million Moons Over Hawaii" that Jerry played on the link above... just PM or email me for them.

If Mark was able to remedy that niggle with probably a 2" neck extension and maybe even do a ten string, I'd be there! But as is they are hard to match. |

Peter... I saw your post awhile back and considered having Mark angle the tuners but opted to have them straight.
I didn't buy the Dynalap from forum member, but I think I still have his email and pics ? Shoot me an email. |

I did the same on my #8 key, but I like to play the nut as a fret, and come off the nut, so it still made it troublesome. But that's the exception, most won't have a problem. |
