Unfortunately, there is no entry in our database for that guitar, BUT, by extrapolating the dates from the know serial numbers, my best guesstimate would be about Friday, August 19, 1977.

Could you provide us with the Color, Knees, Pedals, and if the tag is still on the underside, who the builder was. Also when you aquired it and from whom.
Any other information that is readily obvious such as added equipment/removed equipment, etc. is also appreciated.

Several of us are tracking and updating lists that have most of this info in it. We can then WAG a general date.

Gene Haugh has some detailed records but was inundated with requests last year and finally had to back off providing information as I think that it became a full time job.
We, as past and present Sho-Bud owners, are eternally grateful for all the information he provided. With that information we've been able to compile these databases of information.

I'm guessing around a 1978 or so. Gene Haugh has a serial number list when he worked at S~B and we kinda hounded him too much so he understandably pulled back with the info.

Ray, My Pro-III has a serial number of 6339. I was under the impression that it was one of the first ones made. I can't remember the exact date that I got it. I know I had it for a couple of years when I retired form the U S Navy December 23, 1977.

Leon, just a quick guesstimate about your guitar. It was built sometime between 10/7/74 and 11/4/74. Using the Julian calender I'm guessing a target date of 10/23/74 which was a Wednesday.

I've entered your name and serial number into my spreadsheet. Could you and Ray provide me with the details that I've outlined in the post above? There are several of us that are trying to keep this data updated.

Thanks

Michael

Michael, I traded a Navy Shipmate a brand new MSA S-10 for the Pro-III around 1975. It was black at that time and was dis-assembled. If I had bought a MSA d-10 I would most likely be playing it to this date. Being a Senior Chief Avation Machinists mate, putting a D-10 Sho-Bud back together was not a problem. Back to the details.

As I said, it was black with 8 pedals and 4 knee levers. It had the dust catcher fret boards. I got a verticle knee lever kit from Sho-Bud and installed it while assembling the guitar. The changers were double raise/single lower. In it's lifetime the Pro-III has gone through 2 color changes. From Black to red and from red to natural. It now has the later Sho-Bud triple raise/double lower changers with 2024 aluminum uppers.

Estimated to be Monday, Sept 20, 1971 on your Maverick.

This is calculated and could easily be off by 2 weeks either way due to leap years and actual production shedules.

John, nothing has been logged in for that one.
My WAG (Wild A.... Guess) is Tuesday, April 1, 1980.

My guesses are calculated on averages. Buy subtracting serial numbers of the previous and post numbers, finding the number of days spanning that time, subtracting 8 days per month for w/e's, dividing the total number of units (serial #'s) by days to find units per day, units per day to get to the serial number in question, add that number of days to the previous known or estimated date, find that date on a Julian calender, use an online Julian date converter to find the day of the week and adjust if it falls on Sat. or Sun.

During the period yours was built it appears that they were only producing about 2 or less per day compared to the mid 70's when they were doing almost 10 per day if memory serves from a previous calculation.

thanks. i dont know much about steel guitars at all. ive only been playing for about 6 months. i picked this one up from Jim Palenscar at Steel Guitars North County. I bonded with this one so i saved up and bought it. interestingly enough it looks like this steel was born about 3 weeks before i was! Laughing
