On Sunday June 12th at the Lakeside Park in South Norfolk (Chesapeake), Va. the annual "Phelps Brothers Music Festival" will take place from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. This year the bands will be the "All Star Band" followed by "Sterling Riggs & the TKC Band (Elvis Tribute)" followed by "The Rounders" and lastly the "House Winos".

The Phelps Brothers were local musicians/singers in the 30's, 40's, and 50's who went to Hollywood and appeared in movies with Ray Whitley, Tex Ritter and others. Willie Phelps wrote songs recorded by Jim Reeves, Ernest Tubb, and even Elvis Presley. His dauthter (Bobbie) and her husband Ed (former NFL player with the 49'ers) put on the event along with the City of Chesapeake. It's all outdoors and under shade trees so if you're in the area bring your lawn chair. Food and restrooms are available on site...

I'll be on lead guitar in the All Star Band along with Roger Gray on fiddle, Bobby "Muskrat" Reames on pedal steel, Garland Abbott III on bass, Lonnie Godfrey on drums and Tee Meroney on rhythm and lead vocals. The "rain" date will be June 19th....Hope to see you there............JH in Va.

Hay Jerry,

Events like this was always one of my favorite things to attend, when I was a kid growing up in "South Norfolk", Other than fishing off the bridge, there in the Beautiful "Lakeside park".

Events like This and HS 60's "Rock" bands is one of the reasons that I got into Music In the first place.

They do a Outstanding Job & it get's better every year!.

One of the phelps boys (Rusty), was a school mate of mine, but we lost contact over the years!.

Hope the weather Holds out for you & That you have a great turnout, sounds like it will be another Great lineup this year!, Really Wish I Could Be There!.

Take care, Have a Great time, Blessings, "Keep On Pickin, From The Land Of OZ-♫Howie-"The Wizard"♫

Had a great time yesterday with a great crowd and the weather cooperated in Virginia for a change. The report called for afternoon thunderstorms and showers in the afternoon but it stayed clear until after the event was over.......

Our band played first and I've posted a couple of shots but the "star" of the show was the five year old grand nephew of the Elvis Impersonator (Sterling Riggs). I didn't get the young man's name but he sure had the moves and he was lip synching to all the tunes like he was actually singing them. Cool to see a young dude getting into "show business" at such an early age....JH in Va.
