I've been trying to get my hands on a 9 inch 3 spring reverb tank. I got in touch with Scot at Evans and he gave me Accutronics & Belton's email and I sent it and the email came back. The tank #FB2B1F. Any HELP would be appreciated.

If you can get a small 3 spring to fit in the bottom, an 8EB2C1B OR 8EB3C1B would work pretty good in that circuit. |

Hey Ken,
I got in contact with Alan Otto re: a tank and his message stated- The 8FB2B1F and 8EB2C1B are the same physical size. The 8FB2B1F has an input impedence of 1925 ohms and the 8EB2C1B has an imut impedence of 800 ohms.Depending on the actual design of the reverb circuit in your amplifier there may be enough of an impedence mismatch that the 8EB2C1B may not work as a suitable replacement. Just for a reminder my amp is about 10 years old and it's an Evans JE200. I'm not very good re: ohm and impedence and I really do appreciate your help.

I used the 8EB2C1B in the bottom of a small 200 series Evans amp that had 2x8" speakers. Same input and output impedance as you are talking about above. I went over that with Derrell Stephens and Jim Evans before trying it. It worked just fine and is still working well in that amp. |

for older evans amps, use #FB####; The impedances are the most important specs for the pans. If and #EB is adequate, consider yourself lucky.

There are some at Antigue Electronics with the FB impedance set up. All are the longer tanks. If you have room, taht might a nice way to go. I never tried the EB on the old FET 500 amps, Darrell. It did work well on the small 2 x 8" speaker , 2000 series amp. Pretty small amp, not a lot of room. I went thru a mess with Accutronics at the time, as they had just been sold to Belton and everything eas being sent to Korea. That is when I finally gave up and tried the 8EB2C1B. Luck for me as it worked really well in that particular amp. |

Ken: I never did any work on the 2000 model amps. The ones I am referring to are the Compactra, Hybrid 300 (older ones), and FET 500 Custom and 500 LV Series units. The EB units that work tolerably require the reverb control to be run 'higher' due to less drive through the pan transducers, therefore lessening the recovery stage signal level ... requiring the reverb control ^^^. Using a #EB unit may, over time, cause stress on the reverb drive amplifier stage. Remember, older Evans amps, to me, are 1995 and before.

I placed an order yesterday and now I'll see on Monday if I can cancel the order. I have 3 long reverb tanks but this amp is very limited to space and the 9 inch is all the room on the side of the amp.

Darrell, I concur the impedance mismatch could be a problem. 800 ohm vice 1925 ohm input impedance is a significant change, less then half.
Have you found or do you know of a closer matched replacement? All help appreciated.
Note: Both the input and output transducers coils are open on the reverb tank I'm working on. I'm thinking there could definitely be another problem with the amp. Wish he had brought the whole amp, gonna have to have it. |
