This is one of my all-time favorite songs that I'm recording on a new CD. I thought I would share where I am right now as I am practicing and putting the arrangement together.

For those of you interested in my tuning methods, I am posting some new material soon.

Here is the tune....Vincent (Starry Starry Night)

Sounds great !
I think Paul Franklin played it at the ISGC the year he was inducted to the Hall of Fame.
It works well on the pedal steel

I just heard that Chet Atkins version. Very nice. Perhaps, I will add some guitar like that when I record it on a CD presentation. So many ideas, so little time. Shocked

Theresa - Paul calls "Vincent" a Country song. I think of it as sort of a Folk song so I guess maybe there is a connection somewhere down the line. Smile

Now Jerry Hayes - that sounds like a challenge! I'll see what I can do but I'm getting lazy I guess.....really loving these ballads right now. Smile

Zane, that was a very nice version I like it a lot. I was in St. louis the year Paul played his version. For a long time i didn't know what it was. I thought it may have been an original song. Then I heard Chet's version. It does make a nice country instrumental. Laughing

Zane, getting back to that "speed" challenge. You're one of my favorite players and I love the wonderful tone and all of the Jackson but can you do the speed picking on it as well as you do on your BMI(s)? I know you have the tracks already recorded for Orange Blossom Special and others so how 'bout some "fire" from that Jackson. I got faith in you........JH in Va.

Jerry - I'm still coming with the speedy tunes!!!!

My friend David Jackson called today to tell me how much he liked this tone and playing!!!! So glad he is happy about it. That said, if any of you pickers could set behind this guitar I'm just telling you that you would be amazed at what your ears would be filled up with!!!

An old saying but definitely true...."Tone to the bone!"

Thanks, Tony!

It's amazing how this guitar has me wanting to do more traditional country and gospel music. It is just so fun to play when you hear the guitar responding like it does.

Frank do you happen to have a recording of Doug playing it that you could post? or MP3? Doug lives just down the street from me. I guess I could go over and have him play it for me. I am working on the tune for my own cd and I would love to hear it.

Also, someone mentioned that Paul Franklin did this too. Anyone have any ideas if he recorded it?

I've looked around trying to find a recording of Paul Franklin playing this tune. Anyone have it? I'd love to hear what he did with it.

Hey everyone! I am BRAND new to the forum and glad to be here!! I am a steel guitar fan, but I cannot play it a bit...I am also a Zane King fan and not just because he's a great steel player (and he sure is).... Starry Starry Night (VINCENT) is probably my favorite that he plays, although it is VERY difficult to choose! Looking forward to enjoying reading and learning from the comments and threads here! THANKS!
